counting

I put in a counter on the main page on this here journal last week, as yet another pitiful example of how I need to seek approval for everything I do. 64 people visited yesterday, not including users of LJ who viewed entries via their so-called “friends” list.

I'm quite pleased with 64 hits, although I realise that in the context of the internet, it's pathetic. It's like having 2 cards for your birthday, or your phone ringing once every 3 weeks, and it always being someone from Kitchens Direct. Sources close to David (ok, David himself) reveal that his Xmas Goodle page had something like 1/3 million hits over a fortnight, which he found incredibly exciting at first, and then, as the hours went by and people moved on to newer attractions, he became slightly depressed as he realised that it was all over. The moment had passed, and it was time for him to go back to mining tin, or whatever.

It's obviously tough to hold an internet audience. It's taken me 9 months to build up to an audience of 64. Although I suppose it's better than gigging, where you take 9 months to reduce an enthusiastic crowd of 200 mates to a smattering of disinterested nosepickers who have accidentally wandered into the Dublin Castle. Anyway. I'll keep going. If I hit 100 / day, I'll throw a party. Maybe a barn dance.

Post Script:

I'm sick and tired of my CDs. I can't stand them. Even Steely Dan are annoying me, he said, to muffled laughter. Some charitable bloke on Soulseek recommended some Brazilian music: a frantic percussion-heavy samba ensemble, and some carnival marches from the 1930s, which are both fantastic. But it's only going to keep me going until Friday afternoon. Help!
