I'm listening to “Three Imaginary Boys” by The Cure for the first time in
about 10 years. I'd forgotten how good it is. One wonders how they ever
forged the pointless road from this snappy pop to the sprawling goth of
“Pornography”.
Or maybe they were never goth at all. I don't feel qualified to say… and
I'm sure there are a few people who are… Perhaps they were just
“goth-lite”. Maybe that's why I liked them when I was 15. The Sisters of
Mercy and Play Dead did seem overly scary at the time.
Oh, I didn't die in a plane crash. Heavy landing at Stansted though. I spent
much of the flight looking nervously at two rather grim looking Arab
gentlemen across the aisle. There's media-fuelled prejudice for you.
